Using dental implants to restore the smile after tooth loss
At All Coast Dental, Dr. Joseph of Pacific Beach, California, can help patients who are looking to replace any missing teeth with dental implants. Restorative dentistry encompasses a wide range of solutions for missing teeth, from high-quality dental implants to partial and full dentures. However, implantation dentistry is one of the more popular ways of addressing significant tooth loss.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a tooth replacement solution that is more permanent with a fixed appliance. The implant itself is a titanium post placed into the jawbone. It stimulates bone growth, allowing the bone to create a solid and sturdy foundation that supports the implant. Once in place, the implant abutment can be restored in various ways:
- Dental crown. Patients replacing a single tooth can use a dental crown over the implant to create the appearance of a natural tooth. These crowns are made using porcelain, a material that closely mimics the look of tooth enamel and is made to match the patient’s existing teeth.
- Dental bridges. Patients often use dental implants to support one or both sides of a dental bridge. Dental bridges require adjacent teeth or implants to hold them in place, and dental implants can provide that support.
- Dentures. Implant-retained dentures are a very popular way for patients to replace all the teeth in their upper or lower arch. They provide better stability than denture adhesives or natural suction, allowing the restoration of the smile with improved confidence. Patients can also continue to enjoy all their favorite foods without worrying about their restorations falling out of their mouths at inopportune moments.

So I needed two implants on the top and bottom. I always knew I had to get them done, so I searched around the city, tried to find somewhere where I felt comfortable, and I found Dr. Boulos and his team. I had a lot of questions that they answered. All of them made me feel very comfortable. I would call and ask questions, come in for an appointment, ask more questions. They answered everything, and then it came down to the appointments. I was a little nervous, but they made me feel very comfortable, would call in and check on me after each appointment and everything went really well. I’m very happy and my smile’s back to normal now.

Dental implants are titanium roots, that are replaced with in the jawbone to resemble a tooth or group of teeth. A screw is inserted through the gums and into the jawbone. A porcelain crown is then attached to the screw to become the new tooth or teeth. They can be used to support dental prosthesis including crowns, dentures, and bridges. Todayโs treatments are so natural looking, no one will know you had surgery. Thereโs approximately a 95% success rate for all implants. With modern advances in dentistry, some implants can be restored immediately with life like all porcelain crowns. For more details ask your dentist.
